Questions and Answers

After a few seconds from the end of last episode, Geolain opens the door and allows Amalis entry into his tower.  Dak and Mordraine wait outside.  Geolain discusses his initial fear and the exact nature of Amalis’ appearance.  Geolain tells Amalis that he could be an angel, once revered by the elves.  Amalis knows nothing of this and Geolain doesn’t know enough.  He advises that Veoden, in Haanex, would know more.  Geolain advises that he not travel through the woods in that area alone.

 

Meanwhile, an acquaintance of Dak’s waves him over into a small pub just off of Geolain’s tower.  Both Dak and Mordraine sit, but the friend asks to speak with Dak alone, giving him a piece of paper that Dak takes deeply to heart.  He also notices a sense of dread, as if eyes were watching him the whole time, but everywhere he looked, some faces turned away just at the proper moment.

 

Mordraine is contacted magically by Istvan, the wizard he contracted with.  Istvan claims he is coming to Zoa and needs Mordraine to perform a mission of goodwill.  He says he’ll explain more when he arrives.

 

Delfrin’s superiors finish lecturing him on his behavior and his associates’ actions.  He is assigned a chaperone, Jillian, who is a hard, insufferable, burly woman who is all no-nonsense.  She is charged with helping Delfrin change Mordraine’s point of view.  Mordraine, however, kept his head and spent his time frustrating the paladins. Fakima, who waited for Delfrin, also felt the same sense of foreboding that Dak felt.

 

The trio went toward Geolain’s tower and caught up with Mordraine and Dak.  Istvan, a wizened old Halfling Wizard, made his appearance to Mordraine.  He filled Mordraine in on the details of his mission of goodwill, asking him to go to Haanex and attend a ball in his stead, seek out the host, Lord Bayumeth, and ask him to send off a delivery that he agreed to send to Istvan.  He gives Mordraine 2 invites and suggests he find an escort. Istvan tells Mordraine that the package must be brought back to Zoa as soon as it can be handed over. He says he’ll be finding residence in town and will meet Mordraine upon his return. Mordraine fills the group in on the task at hand and transportation and proper party attire are obtained.  The group travels to Haanex, where they ask around and find the sumptuous resort, the Silver Swan, where the party is to be held.  They are given rooms and Amalis goes to find Veoden, who fills him in more about his actual background.  Amalis is told that he might be an angel in early stage evolution and that the race hasn’t been seen for centuries.  Veoden has limited info, but shows that they were once revered by the elves and before they fully disappeared, they left a message of “Search the skies for your salvation”.

 

Mordraine and Fakima take comfort in the steam pool, while Delfrin tries to join in, fully clothed, but gets overheated and leaves.  Dak finishes his third attempt at forging an invite for himself to the ball.  Delfrin sits in on the staff setup of the event.

 

Amalis stops by a temple of the Bear and wails over his received info, feeling despondent about who he is and what he may represent.  An acolyte of the temple asks if he needs help and tries to talk him through his anxiety.  Amalis finds little solace in the discussion, but realizes that there are things he must discover for himself.

 

Once the ball begins, Dak, Mordraine and Fakima make their entrance and mingle a bit.  Mordraine discovers the Lord Bayumeth and chats him up over his mission.  The Lord is a bit reluctant at first, but is brought around to concede to delivering the goods agreed upon.  He tells Mordraine that it’ll be at the town stables with a carriage at midnight.

 

Mordraine takes a breather out on the balcony and runs into Ventria, Bayumeth’s goth daughter, who chats a bit with Mordraine and quickly agrees to go off with Mordraine for some physical fun.  Delfrin decides that in his capacity to watch Mordraine and keep him from doing evil acts, he follows and watches the events.  Delfrin overhears Ventria call out that she is being choked, so Delfrin acts and hauls Mordraine off the girl.  Once they start to trow down, Mordraine hears the 12 bells ring, signaling midnight.

 

The group hastily gathers together and heads off back to Zoa, but an hour and a half into the trip, goblins on worgs and orcs attack the carriage and topple it, sending the horses toppled onto each other.  The group fights off the attack.  In the midst of the fight, Dak is downed and beheaded and Fakima is taken down but is quickly revived repeatedly until the day is won.  Once the fight is over, the group discovers that the package has broken open, revealing an unconscious Dryad in coldsleep. 

 

Realizing that time is now of the essence for this Dryad, the group races back to Zoa, via Jillian’s mount hauling the carriage.  Awaiting them on the steps of the Temple of the True is Istvan, who tries to deflect his reasoning for the Dryad’s delivery, but admits that he was saving her from a war-torn area and then enlists Amalis’ help to replant her.  Istvan agrees to pay for Dak’s resurrection.

 

Dak is revived and all is well for the group.  For now….
